The Department of Environment presently consists of three Divisions and one Board, namely: |

Flood and Erosion Control. Pollution Control, Sanitation and Waste Management. Laboratory Services Environmental and Waste Management Board. |

These departments are responsible for policies initiation, process and institutions monitoring as well as advisory services to the State government on all environmental priorities for the promotion of a safe, healthy and sustainable environment as follows; |

Initiation of Policies in relation to protection and development of the environment in general Monitoring of the state of the environment in the state by ensuring that there is due compliance with the environmental guidelines by all stakeholders and various organizations in the state; Liaising with the Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing and urban development in ensuring effective harmonization in the implementation of the National Policy on Environment Monitoring the management of industrial solid waste/effluent by industries/companies; Design and construction of flood and erosion control, sewage drains and solid waste facilities Advising the Government on the state environmental policies and priorities as well as on scientific/technological activities affecting the environment. The environment wholly or in cooperation with Local Government Environmental Sanitation/Waste Disposal outfits; Monitoring the implementation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Audit Report (EAR) guidelines and procedures on all development policies and projects within the State; Mobilizing the inhabitants of the State for the observation of environmental rules and guidelines for the promotion of a healthy and safe environment |
