Forest Protection and Log Movement Control

This Division is headed by an Assistant Director of Forestry. The activities of the division are carried out at the Headquarters and Local Government levels.

(b) Patrol of areas outside forest reserves in order to prevent or check the destruction and illegal removal of protected trees

(c) Establishment and operation of log control posts for monitoring logs in transit in order to ensure that such logs are taken in accordance with extant rules and apprehend those found of haven taken such logs in contravention of the said regulation

 (d) Apprehension and prosecution of forestry offences departmentally and in the law courts in respect of (a) (b) and (c) above;

(e) Collection of log control fees at Logs Control Posts at the exit points of Edo State. This collection is backed by Section 27(2) of the Forestry Law of Bendel State now Edo State as amended by Forestry (Amendment) Edit 1984 and is to the effect that “an extra fee which shall be known as Log Control fee of ten naira per log and fifty naira per lorry load of sawn timber leaving Bendel State (now Edo State) shall be paid into the Forest Protection Fund”.

Pursuant to Regulation 53 (C) of the Forestry Law of Bendel State (now Edo State) the Edo State Executive Council on 1st January 2009 increased the Log Control fee as follows. Log Control fees
