To generate conversation amongst stakeholders on the content, implementation and implications of the new Private Properties Protection (PPP) Law in Edo State, the Godwin Obaseki-led administration has organised a Town Hall meeting to be chaired by Chief Sam O. Ugbe, the Iyase of Benin.
The Chairman, Strategic Planning Unit of the Edo State Government, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, disclosed this in a statement, revealing also that the Town Hall meeting would take place by 7AM on Friday, July 13 at Imaguero College Hall in Benin City.
On the objectives of the meeting, he noted that it would help Edo citizens understand the PPP law, define conflict resolution mechanisms, clarify the functions of CDAs, articulate the relationship between government, traditional institutions and CDAs, define the role of security agencies in promoting community harmony, and highlight the role of youths in community leadership development.
He said, “By virtue of the preparations we have made and the modalities we have put in place to execute this awareness programme, the state government expects that after the meeting, the people of the state would have come to a better understanding of the PPP law. We also conjecture that the meeting will clarify the functions of CDAs and facilitate improved synergy between stakeholders, and harmony and peace at the community level.”
The Chairman also explained that the meeting would feature plenary session, which will treat topics on ‘Understanding the Land Use Act’, and ‘The PPP law – review and analysis’, stressing that it would be a waste if such a law was established to improve protection people’s properties and they knew nothing about it.
