E-commerce: Edo, GIZ offer free websites to 30 local businesses

The Edo State Government has rolled out a programme to offer 30 local businesses in Edo State free websites in a renewed e-commerce drive, in partnership with a German development agency, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The two government agencies spearheading the collaboration in the state are the Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) and the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO).

The Managing Director of EdoJobs, Ukinebo Dare, in a chat with journalists, said that the package was to offer the businesses opportunities to have digital presence and drive e-commerce penetration and adoption in the state.

According to her, “The programme provides these businesses with the right tools to take their businesses online. EdoJobs and ESIPO have partnered with GIZ’s Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment Programme (SEDIN) to offer these 30 websites.

“The package includes the purchase of domain names, hosting and content creation for a period of time, in which we would train personnel in the firms on how to navigate the website and maintain it for optimal business visibility and also to drive sales.

“We are excited that this offering will bring more businesses online and provide credible platforms for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to go digital in the state. We believe that this opportunity will ensure that people who may have developed cold feet on account of the cost of setting up and maintaining the website will have a rethink with this solution, which we are offering.”
