The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has set up three institutes to train technicians and professionals in maritime, horticulture and refrigeration technology.
The institutes are the Greg Ogbeifun Institute of Maritime Technology, the Santua Institute of Horticulture Technology, and the Austin Laz Institute of Refrigeration Technology.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, said the institutes are geared towards realising Governor Godwin Obaseki’s charge that higher institutions in the state must produce market-ready graduates.
According to him, “We are charting a new path for industry, academia and community relations. This is what these institutes represent in Edo State Polytechnic. The idea is to get them to solve society’s problems and create a new crop of professionals that actually know their onion.”
He noted, “The polytechnic has instituted the Greg Ogbeifun Institute of Maritime Technology, the Santua Institute of Horticulture Technology and the Austin Laz Institute of Refrigeration Technology, as well as a new programme in Crime Management in line with the polytechnic’s mandate to produce functional, quality and market-ready graduates who will provide the needed technical manpower for industries.”
The rector stated that a partnership with the Germany Embassy in Nigeria has helped in the setting up of a hub for job creation in the institution, urging students to embrace innovative initiatives of the polytechnic that will groom them as topnotch professionals in their chosen career path.
