The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made good on his promise of connecting the secretariat of the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to the CCETC-Ossiomo Power Plant in Benin City, for 24-hour power supply.

The development has thrown journalists in the state into wild jubilation with many commending the governor for his development strides aimed at bridging infrastructural gaps in the state.

Obaseki, at the official lighting of the 24-hour power supply, at the NUJ Secretariat in Benin City, said his government will continue to support the journalists, ensuring that they are able to perform their roles to advance the development of the society.

The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, promised to work with the journalists in achieving a prosperous Edo.

He noted, “We are committed to enhancing the ease of doing business, so when the chairman of Edo NUJ came with his executives asking to be connected to the Ossiomo Power Plant, it was expressly granted by his Excellency because you cannot say you want people to do business with ease without 24/7 electricity.

“Chairman of NUJ, we expected a lot from you, and from the information reaching us, you are doing well. We have to thank Festus Alenkhe for his visionary leadership of the union. Thank God that today, we are commissioning this project. Festus Alenkhe has good plans for the Edo NUJ, I see him doing greater things for the union.”

On his part, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Adaze Emwanta, who hailed the NUJ chairman for his excellent leadership, noted, “No NUJ press center can boast of what Edo journalists enjoy in the state today, including 24 hours electricity and internet connectivity.”

The Edo NUJ Chairman, Festus Alenkhe commended the Obaseki-led administration for its support in ensuring the delivery of the power project.

Assuring the governor of the support of journalists in the state, Alenkhe said, “I want to assure you that Edo NUJ will continue to support your administration to ensure it succeeds.”
