Imariagbe appealed to the residents to take responsibility for their environment to ensure that waste is managed properly.

…Violator arrested.

To enhance cleanliness in the State and ensure environmental sustainability , the Edo State Government, through the Edo State Waste Management Board (EWMB) in collaboration with the Edo State Civil Society Group has embarked on emergency evacuation intervention exercise at Uselu Shell beside one of the new generation banks in Benin City.

The rapid response became necessary when the Board received a distress call detailing how the area has been littered with refuse and the potential environmental threat to residents.

To address the menace, illegal road traders were asked to evacuate the area to enable the team curb the excesses of indiscriminate dumping of refuse around the location. Additionally, an arrest was made on the failure of one the new generation banks to clean up its environment.

The General Manager of the Board, Mr Osadebamen Charles Imariagbe, accompanied by some senior officers of the enforcement team, community members and other relevant stakeholders were all present as the evacuation team cleaned up the environment.

Speaking to journalists shortly after, Mr. Imariagbe said: “the State Government is not relenting in its efforts to make the state clean and healthy for its people hence this laudable intervention to quickly savage the situation and save residents from contracting diseases from the littered area”.

He urged the residents to cooperate with the government by contributing to make the city clean and attractive to live in, stating that whoever goes contrary to the laid down policies for waste management in the State will be arrested and prosecuted according to the environmental laws.

Recall that in his end of year address, the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki had stated that the priority of his administration in 2023 is to clean and green Edo.

Imariagbe appealed to the residents to take responsibility for their environment to ensure that waste is managed properly, adding that they should report any incident of indiscriminate disposal of waste.

He also charged them to report any waste manager that is not giving them the desired services and assured them that such a manager will be sanctioned.
