In line with his directive to ensure that all major road constructions are fast tracked before the rainy season commences, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Thursday, February 16, 2023, embarked on an inspection exercise to ascertain the progress of the ongoing construction of Iduowina, Ekehuan, Textile Mill and other adjoining roads.
The Iduowina road construction is a 7.65km stretch that connects from the Urora area to the Upper Mission Extension axis of Benin City, and also runs to the Azura Power Plant at Ihovbo.
Mr Obaseki also assessed the level of work being done on the dualisation of the 16.0km single carriageway portion of Ekehuan and connecting roads which have an underground drainage system also being constructed.
Accompanied by top government officials including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, Project performance, and Planning, Mrs. Sarah Ajose, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Permanent Secretaries and contractors, the Governor also saw the work done so far on the rehabilitation of the 5.6km stretch of Textile Mill Road and some adjoining streets ahead of the proposed June 2023 completion date.
He also inspected the 2.8km drain at Five Junction in Benin City which is expected to convey water from Canaan Street off Textile Mill Road through TV Road Junction with a discharge point at Eghosa Grammar School.
It is worthy of note that before these roads and drainage projects kicked off, residents in these areas suffered much hardship especially during the rainy season as motorists found the routes tedious due to the heavy floods. Some businesses were forced to shut down due to low customer patronage as a result of poor access roads. The current rehabilitation efforts are set to correct this.
Also inspected was the construction of the 0.246km New Found Lane opposite the Benin Shopping Mall Complex.
Mr Obaseki, while urging the contractors to intensify efforts in ensuring the smooth completion of the project within the stipulated time frame, assured Edo residents of continuous commitment to the delivery of good governance and improving the quality of life for citizens in the State.
