#NigeriaDecides: Obaseki Satisfied with Security as over 11,000 Security Personnel Deployed to Edo

It's now for us to appeal to our citizens to come out to fulfill their constitutional duties.

With less than two days to the general elections, the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has said he is satisfied with the readiness of the security structure in the State, as the Police Commissioner-Elections, CP Ben Okolo, announced that over 11,000 personnel have been deployed to Edo for the 2023 General Elections.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023, the the Governor held a Security Council Meeting with the heads of the security agencies in the State, and afterwards lauded the level of preparedness of security agencies and the synergy and collaboration between the forces.

“Adequate preparations have been made by the security agencies to ensure that there are safe, free, and fair elections in Edo on Saturday.” Mr Obaseki said, adding that “it’s now for us to appeal to our citizens to come out to fulfill their constitutional duties.””Citizens should note that from 12 midnight on the 24th going to the 25th, movement will be restricted until 6pm after the elections are over. This is one of the security measures that we have put in place,” Obaseki continued.

On his part, CP Ben Okolo said he was optimistic about the elections being peaceful, stating that personnel and logistics have been deployed and the security agencies are working closely together.

CP Okolo said: “We have made preparations. We have deployed men and logistics. And there’s a fantastic synergy between all the services. This election will be peaceful.”

“I want to use the opportunity too to warn that nobody should foment trouble. It will be unacceptable. Fomenters of trouble will be prosecuted”, he added.

With respect to the security personnel that will be on the ground during the polls, CP Okolo said: “We are looking at over 11,200 plus.”
