The Edo State Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Mrs. Christabel Omoh Ekwu, has urged the Association of Social Media Influencers (ASMI) to partner with the Ministry in the fight against social vices in the State.
Hon Ekwu, who appealed to the leadership of ASMI who was on a courtesy visit to her Ministry at the Edo State Secretariat Complex, Benin City, described social media influencers as powerful voices in the digital age.
According to her, “I am very pleased to partner with ASMI to heighten the campaign against all social ills, especially drug abuse and cohabitation. Before now, we had plans to meet with content creators in Edo State to join this course because they possess the ability to captivate and engage millions of followers across various online platforms.
“We are committed to a more sane and healthy society. Therefore, I want us to work in synergy and create content against social ills and, most importantly, sensitize young people on the dangers of substance abuse as well as the negative effects of cohabitation.”
Responding, the Chairman of ASMI, Comrade Amienye Omorogie, commended the Government for its commitment to the fight against social ills in the State and expressed his Association’s willingness to key into the Ministry’s initiatives of educating residents in the State as well as raising awareness through social media.
