Edo State Government through the Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, in collaboration with EdoJobs and GIZ SKYE and GRK Tech has organized a two week solar panel installation training for youths at Usen community, Ovia-South West Local Government Area and Sabo-ogida Ora in Owan West Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi Isibor stated that equipping the vibrant youth population with self-sustaining and entrepreneurial skills will improve their capacity to be self-reliant, increase the value they add to society, promote their overall economic outlook and improve the quality of their lives as well as the economy of the state.
On her part, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy Science and Technology, Ms. Yuwa Naps, who was represented by the Head of Renewable and Conventional Energy Department, Engr. Esohe Asemota-Osagie, said the Ministry thought it necessary for youths in rural areas to benefit from solar system installation and maintenance, a skill that would make them relevant to their communities, enable them develop useful solar powered solutions for their communities and be resourceful to themselves. She also appreciated GIZ SKYE for their support to government initiatives
Meanwhile, the Rector, Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Engr. Slyvester Omoruyi, expressed joy at the training while appreciating the Edo State Government for choosing the polytechnic, as students of the institution had benefited immensely from it, charging the participants to value the training program and be committed to the process.
Speaking on behalf of GIZ Skye, the supervisor, Nathaniel Olotu, explained that investment in the youth is a huge part of nation building, hence the need for GIZ Skye to support Edo State Government in ensuring that every youth in the State is empowered.
Mr. Olotu advised the trainees to ensure they remain focused through the period of the training so that they could grasp the maximum benefits of the two week long programme.
Also speaking, a student of the computer science department and beneficiary of the programme, Miss Omorodion Deborah, appreciated Governor Godwin Obaseki and GIZ for the opportunity given them to learn solar panel installation and maintenance, promising to make the best from the exercise.
