The management team of Benin Club, on Wednesday, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state for his developmental strides and the steps taken to reposition the state for investments, while also appointing him as the first patron of the club.
This was at the Edo State Government House where Governor Obaseki said that his administration aimed to return the state to an enviable height in the country and open it for investments to improve the economic wellbeing of the state and her people.
He expressed delight at the investiture, and thanked the management team of the club for commending his performance so far in office, while also appreciating the past and present executives of the club. He revealed that he had been visiting the club as a child and that he learnt how to swim there adding that he still visited the golf section of the club once a week to play golf.
Meanwhile Engineer Ade Edeki, president of the Benin club, explained that the club was founded in 1931 and called ‘European Club’ before it was changed to ‘Benin Club in 1964’.
“The club is not political, none profit club and its members are people without questionable character, people that have contributed immensely to the development of their communities,” Edeki explained.
