Coronavirus: Edo govt continues distribution of relief materials to returnees, widows, others

In continuation of the provision of palliative packages to vulnerable groups in the state, the Edo State Government has distributed a batch of relief materials to Libya returnees, widows, among other persons to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the distribution of the relief materials in Benin City, the Edo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, said, “These packs have been graciously provided by Governor Godwin Obaseki to be distributed to returnees, the needy, widows, vulnerable persons, who face difficulties in feeding themselves. He is sympathetic to the plights of the people during this period.

“We are also focusing on the people at Igun Street, especially those who receive daily pay and are unable to feed themselves at this time of the partial lockdown.”

The beneficiaries commended the state government for the gesture, which they said will go a long way to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home directive as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.

Recall that the state government has sustained the distribution of relief materials since it opted for a partial lockdown of the state, a move that has sustained operations of traders in foodstuffs, who now operate in public primary and secondary schools across the state. Medicine stores, petrol stations are also open to ensure essential services are provided.

The materials are being distributed to residents across the 192 wards in the state by traditional and religious leaders, as well as other community partners, who are collaborating with government and monitoring the process to ensure that the materials get to those who need them.
