As part of his developmental strides and agenda of Making Edo Great Again, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has flagged off the reconstruction and rehabilitation of some roads, measuring about 9.7km and cutting across over 20 communities in Egor Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.
Speaking at the event which took place at the popular Uwelu Road, being one of the roads to be reconstructed in the first quarter of year 2024, Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Hon. Engineer Osazee Ethan Uzamere, said, “Egor Local Government is important to the State as it is one of the historic local governments. The Uwelu Spare Parts Road is used to serve as a bypass and can also serve as an alternative route to reduce traffic around the area. The project, which is long overdue, has been bad for a very long period of time.
“This project is going to enhance the economic lives of Egor Local Government. Work commenced over a week ago in the Community, and the road is called Uwelu Spare Parts Road. We are doing a lot of adjoining roads around here. The total number of roads to be constructed is 9.7 km, which will make use of concrete technology with rigid pavement”.
According to the Governor, besides the reconstruction of the road, a mini water storm project will be embarked on, as well as the construction of concrete drains to curb the recurrent flooding problems faced by residents and motorists in the area, which has caused so many landlords to abandon their houses and many businesses to relocate.
The Egor Local Government Chairman, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, applauded the State Government for its continuous effort in making sure that the area is developed, stating that, “The road is a bypass linking several communities such as Evbotubu, Okhokhugbo, Ikpea, Uwelu, and so on”. She pledged her support as well as that of her Local Government, in ensuring that Governor Godwin Obaseki finishes his tenure well and strong.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Chairman of Uwelu Spare Parts Market, Comrade Collins Osa, the Okae Idunmwun of Uwelu Road, Pa Samuel Osemwengie Inneh, who took turns to commended the State Government for remembering their Community by fulfilling its promise of fixing Uwelu Spare Parts Road and other roads in their domain.
Other dignitaries include the Chairman of the Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Chief Odion Olaye; the Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Honourabe Natasha Irobosa Osawaru; Councilors of Egor Wards three, five, and six; Chief Osaruyi Ogida of Evbogida; High Priest Osaretin Amegor; Okan Amegor of Uwelu; Edionwere, representatives of youths and women in the Community; staff of Egor Local Government Council; and other top Government officials of Edo State.
Upon completion, the road leading to the popular Uwelu Spare Parts Market and others, which are marked for reconstruction would link more than 20 communities. Such development would further improve the living standards of people in the area as well as boost economic activities, thereby creating wealth for all.
