Towards realising the vision of the Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo of making the State to be one of the cleanest in Nigeria, the Managing Director (MD) of the Edo State Waste Management Board (EWMB), Mr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, has called on the Environmental Sustainability Corps (ESC) to redouble their efforts to achieve the Board’s objectives of cleanliness.
Mr. Enehita-Inegbenehi gave the charge while addressing the 176 members of the ESC at the Government House in Benin City. He emphasized the need for collective action between the government and the residents, saying, “The vision is very clear; we want Edo to be the cleanest State in Nigeria, and our slogan is ‘We Can Do’. To achieve this, some of you will be deployed to key markets across the City, including Oregbeni, New Benin, and Oba Market”.
He warned against dereliction of duties, stressing that corps deployed to specific locations must adhere strictly, as sanctions await defaulters. He sued that the task is a collective mission, which must be given the attention it deserves. He stated that salaries would be a function of attendance and diligence to duty, with zero tolerance for absenteeism.
As part of efforts aimed at ensuring clean environment, the EWMB Boss urged shop owners to take responsibility for cleanliness around their premises, saying shop owners must ensure that the area from respective shop to the walkway is clean. He concluded that shop owners will be accountable for any dirt found around their shops.
The ESC’s mandate is expected to accelerate efforts in achieving the State’s sanitation goals, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for Edo residents.
