The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Peter Osagie has disclosed the Ministry’s readiness in collaborating with the members of Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange in food security and for feed, fodder, and livestock projects in the State.
making this disclosure when he played host to the Executive Members of Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange at the Agriculture Hub in Benin City, Dr. Osagie explained that their request for the allocation of 1000 hectares of land for feed, fodder, and livestock projects to generate forex for the State is being looked into by the State Government.
He therefore urged the team to ensure that detailed documentation of the project’s profile and implementation plan is provided to the Ministry.
Earlier, the Head of Operations, Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange, Nkechi Obi, stated that they were at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to solicit for collaboration in ensuring the success of their projects, adding that her team had requested for land allocation of 1000 hectares for feed, fodder and livestock projects to generate forex for Edo State, being one of the states with vast arable lands.
Mrs. Obi further explained that Edo State had been identified as one of the states to take part in the project, noting that the Ministry is the primary driver for their activities.
She reiterated that the key aspect of the project is the cultivation of feed crops and cultivation of fodder crops as well as the implementation of sustainable livestock production within Edo State, adding that the provision of land in Edo would ensure that the critical input for the project to kick off in the state is provided for, as it would create employment and capacity building for the people of the State.
