The Obaseki family has paid a visit to the Palace of His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin to announce the death and burial arrangement for the late Obaseki of Benin Kingdom and the head of Obaseki family in Benin and the diaspora, Hon. Justice Andrew Otutu Obaseki (Retired) BSMA, CFR.
Elder George Obaseki, the immediate younger brother of the deceased led members of the Obaseki family to the Benin Royal Palace to inform the Monarch of the passing unto glory of their father.
The Esogban of Benin Kingdom Chief David Edebiri introduced members of the Obaseki family to Oba Ewuare 11, including the governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki, as they took turns to pay homage to the Benin Monarch.
The family said there was an announcement in the media regarding the burial arrangement for their father which was put out in error as the family was not part of that arrangement.
They told the Oba that their visit was to inform him of the correct burial date and arrangement for a successful burial ceremony beginning on August 7, 2017.
In his response the Oba of Benin extolled the leadership qualities of the late Justice Andrew Obaseki, his contributions to the judiciary, Edo State and Nigeria.
He thanked God and the ancestors for extending the late Andrew Obaseki’s time to see governor Obaseki fulfill his destiny as he died barely a day after the Supreme Court judgment gave victory to Godwin Obaseki over the governorship tussle.
The Monarch prayed for God and the ancestors to give the Obaseki family the fortitude to bear the loss, and give the governor good health to effectively deliver his mandate to Edo people.
