  5. EDSG offsets Medical Bills, provides Relief for Nursing Couple

‎The Edo State Government through the Office of the First Lady, led by the Coordinator, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has continued to demonstrate commitment to residents’ welfare with the recent event of settling the medical bills of a preterm baby boy, who was born on the 29th of May, 2025, at the St. Philomena Hospital in Benin City, consequent on the parents’ inability to settle the bills.

‎The baby’s parents, Mr. Saviour Sunday and Mrs. Beauty Sunday, had an outstanding medical expense of N1.4 million after paying N200,000 and receiving a N70,000 donation from public-spirited persons. The timely intervention of the Edo State Government has enabled them to settle the outstanding balance and reunite with their baby.

‎Mrs. Anani who was represented at the couple’s residence at GRA, Benin City, by the Permanent Secretary of Government House, Mrs. Edith Sede, reaffirmed the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s commitment to every child’s welfare in the State.

‎She emphasized that no one would be denied medical care due to financial constraints, condemning the merciless treatment the child faced at the hospital.
‎According to her, “Sen. Monday Okpebholo, as the Father of the State, cares deeply about the well-being of residents. The health of Edo residents is his priority. Through strategic policies and programmes, he has ensured everyone has access to quality healthcare, and no one is deprived due to financial constraints. The State Government also provided relief materials, including diapers, clothes, food items and more, to cater for the family’s needs”.

‎Mrs. Anani appreciated Sen. Okpebholo for the swift response and support, while advising the couple to care for the baby. She provided health tips for the child’s well-being. The couple, a recent Civil Service recruit and a barman, expressed gratitude for the kindness and support, which they described as providing them the much-needed help during a challenging time.
