As part of the vision of the Edo State Government to sustain effective administration of the Public Service, its Training Arm, the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) has organised a two-day training to strengthen top Civil and Public servants across the State’s ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

The training themed, “Succession Planning and Mentoring,” held Tuesday, 29th and Wednesday 30th July, 2025 at JOOPSA in Benin City. The Director General of JOOPSA, Mrs. Gina Otamere asserted that there is the need for proper succession planning in the Service to guarantee continuous and effective service delivery of Government policies and programmes.

She urged participants to appreciate the importance of mentorship to the growth of organisations with particular reference to their respective MDAs.

The Resource Person and Professor of Human Resource Management from the University of Benin, Prof. Evelyn Umemezia, engaged participants in the technical sessions. She stated that most organisations fail because they neglect the very essence of continuous progress which is enunciated in “Succession Planning and Mentoring.”

Some participants who spoke, said they were grateful for the empowerment and appreciated the Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo; the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Osas Okungbowa; and the JOOPSA Team; for creating an enabling environment for learning and development.
