As part of efforts to accelerate the Edo State digital education transformation journey, the State Government through its Ministry of Education has begun an exciting initiative of onboarding teachers through a comprehensive training programme focused on the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS).
According to the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, represented by the Director of Planning and Research, Mr. Gabriel Orire, the TMIS is taking place in various Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the three senatorial districts of the State.
He said the training sessions are for Head Teachers, Principals, Chief Inspectors of Education and stakeholders in the education ecosystem to equip them with the “Know-how to manage teacher data”, skills to enable them oversee deployment, and ensure that the TMIS platform runs smoothly.
Dr. Iyamu highlighted the importance of TMIS as a crucial resource for promoting transparency, accountability and smart decision-making, which would provide real-time data of every teacher in the State for accountability. He added that the Platform uses biometric verification, geo-tagging and real-time dashboards to enhance teacher management and to track performance effectively.
The Commissioner further disclosed that participants were being trained to become TMIS ambassadors, who will spread their new found knowledge throughout their LGAs in the State, while appreciating the initiative as part of Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s mission to bolster education through digital tools. He concluded that the ongoing teacher training, coupled with effective governance, will position Edo State as a beacon of educational innovation in Nigeria.
