EDSIEC conducts training for Election Officers ahead of upcoming Bye-Election

‎The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has initiated a rigorous training program for election officers in preparation for the impending bye-election scheduled to take place on Saturday the 20th of September, 2025.

‎ The training, which took place at Imaguero College in Benin City, aimed to equip the officers with essential skills and knowledge to ensure smooth and transparent electoral processes in the State.

‎The training kicked off with the theme, “Election Process and procedures”, and was attended by thousands of Election Officers drawn from various Local Government Areas across the State.

‎ Participants included Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Returning Officers, all of whom will play a vital role in the conduct of the election.

‎Delivering the lecture at the training, one of Commissioners of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission EDSIEC, Dr. Seleman Ikhuoriah and a senior staff of the commission, Mr. Dickson Aideyan emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity among election officials.

‎ “As custodians of the electoral process, it is our duty to uphold the values of democracy and ensure that every vote counts.

‎”This training is designed not only to enhance your skills but also to reinforce your commitment to a free, fair and credible election”. Aideyan stated.

‎The training sessions covered a range of topics, including the electoral process, voting procedures, voter education, conflict resolution and post-election reporting. Interactive sessions and simulations were also incorporated to provide hands-on experience for the Officers, allowing them to engage effectively with the community during the electoral exercise.

‎Aside from Technical Training, participants received guidance on managing potential electoral challenges, were given samples of the statement of result form which is FORM EDSIEC C1, FORM EDSIEC D1 amongst others.

‎ The resource persons reiterated the importance of fostering public confidence in the electoral process, particularly in a time when the integrity of elections is under scrutiny across many jurisdictions, advising them to avoid misinformation and voter apathy.

‎The upcoming bye-election, necessitated by the recent abandon of office by some Local Councilors, which sparked significant interest among voters in the affected constituencies, has witnessed Political Parties ramping up campaigns, with EDSIEC focused on ensuring that the poll is conducted with the utmost transparency.

‎On his part, one of the trainees, Mr. Emmanuel Omoregie, expressed optimism about the upcoming election.

‎”I am grateful for this opportunity to be trained by experienced officials. I believe that with the right preparation, we can deliver an election that reflects the will of the people”. He said.

‎The fifteen (15) Local Government Areas affected are Akoko Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North East, Esan South East, Esan west, Etsako East, Etsako West, Igueben, Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, Orhionwon, Ovia North, Owan East, Uhumwonde.
