Yuletide: Edo Govt. deploys joint anti-crime force, tasks residents on vigilance

The Edo State Government has set up a joint security force made up of officials of the different security agencies, to secure the state before, during and after the yuletide.

Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Mr Johnson Kokumo, disclosed this at the end of a joint security meeting presided over by the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House, Benin City, on Monday.

Kokumo said that the various security outfits in the state would carry out joint security patrols on land while “there will be water and air surveillance to guarantee the safety of people in the state.”

He also disclosed that the borders with the neighbouring states of Delta, Ondo and Kogi have been fortified.

He urged residents of the state to discountenance the rumours that some persons have concluded plans to cause mayhem in some parts of the state during the festive period, and assured that the areas mentioned are already being policed.

“Citizens of the state should remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or movements to the security agents,” he urged.

The police chief appealed to members of the public to contact the relevant security agencies with the following telephone numbers: 08067551618, 08077773721, 08068765588 and 08188445577.
