As heavy rainfall approaches, the Edo State Government has assured residents and motorists plying the Ukhun, Peanut, Iguikpe, and Uromwon axis of the State and its environs of speedy rehabilitation of the roads. The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Engr. Osikhena Ojior, disclosed this during an interview with journalists on the status of road infrastructure in Edo and the ongoing plans by His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to ensure Edo residents have access to good and accessible roads.

In the interview, Engr. Ojior explained that while the state is currently awaiting the release of funds to commence action on the rehabilitation processes, an assessment exercise has been concluded for the roads, and the procurement processes finalized to ensure contractors are mobilized once the funds are made available.

Regarding the Ukhun Road in Isihor, Engr. Ojior said, “We have gone and assessed it. It’s in our plan, that in terms of prioritization, this road happens to be one of those roads which I said ESTAR was considering should be a priority to help in their transportation route. So, it will now be a question of the availability of funding for us to be able to bring this one up to speed. It’s very much in our sight.”

For Peanut Road off Sapele Road, he added, “It happens to be a road that is paramount in our plan. It’s one of the roads which has been highlighted by ESTAR to be done. So, I think it ranks very high in terms of those roads which we will consider doing once we have sufficient budget for it.”

Furthermore, he assured residents that the Iguikpe and Uromwon roads are also on their list, and the government will try to address and build the roads where they fall within their budgeting plan.

The Governor-Godwin Obaseki-led administration has once again expressed its commitment to ensuring citizens of the state have access to quality road infrastructure that will improve their well-being and provide a business-friendly environment for investors to thrive in the State. As the government awaits funds to mobilize contractors, residents, and motorists can rest assured that the rehabilitation of these crucial roads will be prioritized to guarantee safe and accessible transportation.
