The recent tragic killings in Edo State have understandably caused concern among the people, especially in Uromi and its environs. However, I assure residents of Uromi and Edo State in general, that there is no need for panic or fear of reprisals from any group. The Executive Governor of Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo is taking proactive measures to address the situation and ensure the security of lives and property across the State. His decision to visit the victims’ families and the Governor of Kano State is a commendable step in the right direction.
This action underscores the Government’s commitment to seeking justice for the affected families and fostering peace between communities.
I reassure the people that the State Government is working closely with Security Agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further violence.
I acknowledge the pain and outrage felt by many and strongly warn against any form of unlawful retaliation. I urged all residents to remain law-abiding and respect the sanctity of human life. Let us all be reminded that no individual has the right to take another’s life. Instead of resorting to jungle justice, all grievances should be reported to the Police or other law enforcement agencies for proper intervention.
Edo State has long been known for its hospitality, not hostility. The people have a reputation for warmth, peace and coexistence and I implore citizens of this noble State to uphold these values even in difficult times. Engaging in unlawful acts only undermines the peace and progress that the State has worked hard to maintain.
Furthermore, I encourage Edo people to support Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, as he is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to all Edo residents, regardless of political affiliation, region or social status. I assure all residents that before the end of the Governor’s first tenure, you will witness significant transformations in infrastructure, security and economic growth, which would further cement the State’s position as a beacon of development.
I also urge Edo people to appreciate the leadership of Governor Okpebholo, who is a leader with a genuine vision for progress. Let us stay united, exercise patience and collaborate with the State Government in ensuring that the State continues to thrive, even in the face of challenges.
The Government remains steadfast in its duty to protect and serve its people. Therefore, every citizen is encouraged to work hand in hand with the authorities to build a safer and more prosperous Edo State. Together, peace will be preserved, and the State will continue on its path of greatness.
