Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe has received the Acting Vice Chancellor and other Management Staff of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, with the sole aim of improving on the University’s development and future collaboration. The Commissioner, an Alumnus of the Institution, expressed gratitude to the Management of the university for taking time from their busy academic schedules to meet with him.
He noted that Edo State Government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is committed to continuing the vision of the late Prof. Ambrose Alli, adding that the government had already appropriated funds for the construction of a new lecture theatre hall and a 500-capacity hostel for both male and female students at the university campus situated in Ekpoma.
The Commissioner further emphasized the importance of collaboration between the State, Local Government and the University to meet accreditation requirements for the Faculty of Medicine, and he acknowledged the need to revitalize the University’s Dam, noting that experts have been deployed for an on-the-spot assessment.
Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration, according to the Commissioner, is dedicated to ensuring the University thrives. As part of its efforts to promote community integration and development, the government plans to expand the Community School which already exists in Benin City, across the three Senatorial Districts, including Ekpoma and Bekuma, where the Lecturers would teach diploma courses in conflict resolution.
Dr. Esiegbe further explained that, the Government had set aside funds for the establishment of a Specialist Teaching Hospital and a Nursing School in Okhuesan to foster development in all corners of the State, appealing for a reduction in school fees to make education more accessible and prevent students from seeking education outside the State.
Earlier, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Prof. Sunday Olowo Samuel, congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment, which he described as well-deserved and a clear testament of his resilience, diligence, hard work and dedication to serve God and humanity, expressing hope that the leadership of the Commissioner would help foster a harmonious working relationship between the Ministry and the AAU.
Highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of a photo frame to the Commissioner and an AAU face cap as a gesture of goodwill.
