Akoko-Edo Council Chairman, Vice impeached

The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, Hon. Tajudeen Alade Suleman Esq and his Deputy, Hon. Beatrice Abukare have been impeached over allegations of financial misappropriation and executive recklessness.

Moving the motion for impeachment, Hon. Akosile Nicholas Imashimi, Councillor representing ward 9 at the hallowed chambers on Monday, 6th January 2025 and seconded by his ward 7 counterpart, Hon. Afolabi Hope Monday, disclosed that Akoko-Edo people were tired of secrecy in governance and poor harnessing of the abundant mineral deposits in the area for the betterment of locals.

Following the development, Rt. Hon. Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, leader of the House and Councillor representing Ward 5, stepped down and assumed the role of Council Chairman in acting capacity, while Rt. Hon. Jacob Tope, Deputy Leader of the House, assumed office as leader of the legislative arm.

Addressing journalists at the event, the Acting Chairman pledged his unalloyed loyalty to the administration of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, promising to key into his 5-points agenda to arrive at a new Edo.

He dissolved all political appointments of previous administration even as he set up a committee to recover all government properties in possession of the erstwhile Council Chairman, Deputy and Aides.

Meanwhile, legislators who were absent at plenary were put on two months suspension.
