The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani has urged the Uhunoma Foundation to focus on initiatives aimed at empowering women at the grassroot to complement the dedication to women’s empowerment by the Sen. Monday Okpebholo-led administration in the State.

Mrs. Anani gave the charge while playing host to the Uhunoma Foundation in her Office at the Government House in Benin City. She urged organisations and individuals to take their empowerment initiatives to the grassroot, to ensure that they touch the lives of women who need it most.

According to Mrs. Anani, “The grassroot woman is incredibly intelligent and deserves our focus. Our office prioritises working with and empowering grassroots women through various initiatives. I urge you to take your efforts to the grassroots level, as true impact is felt when we touch the lives of women at this level.”

Mrs. Anani reiterated her passion for womanhood and her desire to see every woman succeed, regardless of their socio-economic status. In her words, ‘What legacy will we leave behind as women? Will we be able to look back and say we empowered the women who came after us? This is crucial to me because, as women, we are nation builders. I urge us to promote a spirit of love and unity among women, transcending politics and encompassing all areas, including business. Let’s support each other in leadership and uplift one another. I’m deeply passionate about womanhood and want to see every woman thrive, regardless of her socio-economic status.”

Earlier, Mrs. Anani expressed gratitude to the women for supporting Governor Okpebholo’s election, acknowledging their crucial role in his victory. She said, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation for your electoral support. I acknowledge the crucial role women played in the Governor’s victory and commend your dedication, kindness, and unwavering support for Distinguished Sen. Monday Okpebholo. Your efforts are truly valued, and I pray that the Lord blesses you for your contributions.”

The Director General of Uhunoma Foundation, Mrs. Maryam Jibrin commended Mrs. Anani for her warm reception and for her good works in the State. She appealed for more representation of the group in governance.

The Secretary of Foundation, Mrs. Josephine Iyamu, explained that the Uhunoma Foundation is an umbrella organization comprising over 50 registered groups with a membership strength of over 4,000 persons. According to her, “We are a formidable, focused, and determined group that raises our voices on issues affecting women and young female politicians, advocating for what we believe in within the political space.

“Our mission is to empower young females and build the next generation of women leaders. We support one another in every way possible, mobilize for our party candidates during elections, and stand together in times of trouble and difficulty. United by love, unity, and self-discipline. We strive to make a positive impact.”
