The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has commended representatives of the Junior Chamber International (JCIN), University of Benin (UNIBEN) Chapter for fostering a culture of community service and undertaking projects that benefit the State and its citizens.
Mrs. Anani, who played host to JCIN at the Government House in Benin City, also harped on the importance of moral values in shaping society, stressing the need for individuals to adopt them.
She urged the Group to reject any form of violence in school and to discourage cultism in their advocacy programmes.
”I commend what you do. Having a platform to sensitize students and add value to them, makes the State a better place. What you do is like a managerial programme, an intermediary programme that bridges the gap while in school so that when you come out, you’re able to blend into the corporate world. it’s very good because the corporate world is different from what you see or read about. Having mentors guide people to meet expectations outside of school is very important”. She said.
The Local Organization President, Miss Praise Festus Ewere, appreciated Mrs. Anani for her impactful work in youth and girl-child advocacy, particularly in combating human trafficking and empowering young people. She stated that JCIN (UNIBEN Chapter) empowers young leaders with skills and opportunities for positive impact through community engagement, personal growth and leadership development, which has benefited over 1,000 students.
She further solicited the support of the Office of the Edo State First Lady on the JCIN Bus Project, which she said would reduce transportation costs and boost their initiatives.
”JCIN is a global organization present in over 120 countries, including Nigeria. Basically, what we do in JCIN, is create positive change for young leaders. We do community actions, personal development, employability skills, leadership skills, amongst others.
” JCIN UNIBEN is the largest organization on campus, with over 560 members. More than 1,000 University of Benin students have had different opportunities through JCIN. It has helped many persons, including my Executive Members. In JCIN, we train our members to prepare them for the corporate world”. She concluded.
