APC Govs To Meet Buhari Over Edo APC Crisis

By Temidayo Akinsuyi

Lagos – President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to meet with state governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja today.

The meeting, DAILY INDEPENDENT gathered, is to seek his intervention in the political crisis in Edo state, especially the party’s governorship primary slated for June 22.

An aide of one of the governors, who said not all the governors will be in attendance, confirmed the development to our correspondent on telephone.

The aide, who said his principal will participate in the meeting from his base, added that some of the governors will attend the meeting via virtual means.

He said that the governors, under the aegis of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), believe it is time for President Buhari as the leader of the party to take a decision to salvage the situation before it gets out of hand.

“It’s supposed to be a virtual meeting but from information available, it is likely that the chairman of the forum, Atiku Bagudu and a few of them will be in Abuja to personally see the President due to the seriousness of the matter.

“The governors believe since it took President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention to save Comrade Adams Oshiomhole from being removed, he should also intervene in the situation in Edo and Ondo too before the situation gets out of hand.”

Governor Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are expected to slug it out for the APC governorship ticket to determine the party’s flagbearer for the September 19 governorship election.
