Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, was at the Benin Airport to bid farewell to the players and managers of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, as they depart for Algiers to battle the Algerian football side, ASO Chlef FC, in a return match, in the ongoing 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Rounds.
The 1st leg of the match, which took place on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, ended in favour of Bendel Insurance FC, in a 1 – 0 victory.
While addressing the players at the Benin Airport before their departure, Obaseki assured the team of the unwavering support by both the government and people of Edo State.
According to Obaseki, “I came to the airport to see you guys and to assure you of the government’s support. I want you to know that we are behind you. I am confident that you will be victorious. I believe that you can even perform better than you did in Benin last Saturday.”
In another development, the Edo State Government has bagged the ‘Best Government Sponsorship’ award in the Nigerian Professional Football League 2023 season (NPFL23), while Sterling Bank, the official sponsor of Bendel Insurance FC, was awarded as ‘Best in Brand Sponsorship of Team’, at the LBA/NPFL Awards 2023.
