The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured of sustained investment in children in the state through the revamp of the state’s basic education sector, to equip Edo children to compete favourably with their peers across the globe.
The governor, who said this in commemoration of Children’s Day, marked every May 27, said the state government will continue to deploy innovative measures in ensuring children in the state are prepared for future challenges and opportunities.
He said, “As we mark Children’s Day amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, I join parents, guardians and caregivers across the country to celebrate our children who are our future and special gift from God.
“My administration will continue to deploy resources in ensuring children in the state continue to learn even while at home in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our online homeschooling platform, EDO-BEST@Home, is designed to enable pupils continue to learn from resources downloaded from an online database while at home and we are proud of the results from the initiative.”
Obaseki noted that the state government through the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues is reinvigorated to protect children from any form of abuse and exploitation in line with the implementation of the Child Rights Act.
“The interest of every child in Edo is a top priority for us, as we continue to mobilise resources to ensure they are well prepared to compete with their peers across the globe,” he added.
