The Edo State Government has urged residents in the state to show love to orphans and the less privileged, in the spirit of the Christmas celebration.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, after presenting gift items to children at the Project Charilove Foundation, in Benin City, the Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Hon. Maria Edekor said the government is committed to the welfare of all citizens, including the less privileged.
According to her, “We decided to give gifts, including clothes, toys and other items to orphans in the state, in line with the commitment of His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to the welfare and wellbeing of the less privileged, especially during this season of Christmas. We also presented various toys to the children, so that they can have something to play with at their leisure time.”
She added: “These items are meant for the children to use in celebrating Christmas because, on Christmas Day, we want the children to be dressed up in these beautiful clothes as it is what a good father does for his children.
“These children are God’s creatures. God gave them to us and we are happy because every gift from God is a good gift.”
The commissioner further stated, “His Excellency thought it wise that we bring these gift items to these children. The government is ready to serve the people, irrespective of your status or vulnerability.”
The founder and service leader, Project Charilove Foundation, Bro. Chris Omusi, represented by Sis. Edna Ikalumhe, expressed appreciation to the state government for the show of love, noting, “We thank His Excellency for the love shown towards Project Charilove Foundation.”
Some of the items donated by the state government include intelligent sticks, sunglasses, jean trousers, T-shirts, flutes, puzzle toys, power bikes, drawing and writing boards, and scrabble for children.
