COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR UNITY AND COOPERATION AS EDO NULGE EXECUTIVES SEEK SOLUTIONS TO WORKERS’ WELFARE

By Daniel-Nwosu Nohunwan Lucy

In a significant step towards resolving ongoing Local Government issues, Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe has called for unity and collaboration among Local Government Employees.

Making this call during a meeting with the Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State Chapter at his office in Benin City, the Commissioner reassured the Union that the State Government, under Governor Monday Okpebholo, remains committed to ensuring workers receive their entitlements, including wages and promotions.

He further described the Governor as one who stands for practical governance and not theory, while underscoring the importance of unity in tackling the issues bedeviling the Local Governments.

Hon. Eseigbe assured the Executives that the Edo State Government is committed to upholding the rule of law and is focused on making the Civil Service Workers proud of their roles in Government, adding that all issues, including Union Dues, promotions and support for the up-coming NULGE National Conference would be thoroughly addressed, as the present administration is committed to the well-being of Local Government workers in the State.

On his part, the State President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State Chapter, Dr. Scot Aigbovia, while congratulating the Commissioner on his appointment, raised concerns about the backlog of promotions, union dues, trainings and other welfare packages, appealing to the Ministry to lift the suspension on union dues, which had earlier been stopped due to the absence of a duly elected leadership after the last tenure of the past State President.

In a similar development, the Executives of a factional NULGE led by Comrade Clifford Daudu had earlier visited the Commissioner to raise similar concerns, signaling a unified call for action to resolve the welfare issues affecting Local Government Workers in the State.
