COVID-19 2nd wave: Edo govt seeks collective efforts against spread

The Edo State Government has solicited the support of all residents in the state in curtailing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), as the government intensifies efforts to contain the second wave of the pandemic.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, blamed the steady rise in the number of confirmed cases in the state on poor compliance to guidelines by the government to contain the infectious disease.

Obi reassured the government’s commitment to curbing the spread of the virus and urged persons with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.

The Incident Manager noted, “We appeal to all residents in the state to complement the state government’s efforts at ensuring the health and safety of all citizens by complying with the government’s guidelines against the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.

“It is quite discouraging that while the government steps up measures to protect residents against this deadly virus, some persons disregard these orders, thereby endangering the lives of others.

“We call on all residents to adhere to the compulsory use of facemasks and other precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus as the government alone cannot win this battle.”

“Wash your hand regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and observe social distancing,” he added.
