COVID-19 2nd wave: Strengthen compliance, Edo taskforce tells worship, event centres, others

Edo State Taskforce on coronavirus (COVID-19) has urged worship and event centres in the state to deploy more resources in enforcing the government’s protocols and guidelines to check the spread of the second wave of the pandemic.

Addressing journalists in Benin City after monitoring compliance at event and worship centres, the state’s health educator, Mrs. Irene Uabor said the state government will continue to ensure strict compliance to its directives to contain the pandemic.

The team visited Gloria Garden and Event Center, the Quid and the Thames Event Centre, among others.

Uabor noted: “We visited quite a number of event centres and most of them have their non-pharmaceutical safety kits in place, including hand sanitizers and hand washing facilities, at the entrance to the centres. Most of the places visited, people wearing facemasks did not properly do so. We used the opportunity to sensitize them on the need to properly wear their facemasks.”

“We also sensitised the management of some public places on the need to ensure personnel are positioned to man hand washing facilities to monitor compliance.”

Members of the Taskforce were also at the Open gate Ministries along Goodwill Street and Jesus Family Ministries off Ekehuan Road, Benin City.
