COVID-19 3rd wave: Edo records 32 new cases, 15 recoveries, as death toll rises to 4

Edo State has recorded 32 new cases and two recoveries from coronavirus (COVID-19), as the death toll from the virus rises to four in the third wave of the pandemic.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this after the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

According to him, “Edo State, within the last 72 hours, recorded 32 new cases of COVID-19 and 15 recoveries, with 132 active cases currently receiving treatment at various isolation and treatment centres in the state. The 32 new cases were confirmed from the 283 samples collected within the 72-hour time frame.

“We also recorded two new deaths from the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, bringing the total number of deaths recorded in the third wave of the pandemic to four.”

“Edo has now collected 6,306 samples and recorded 203 confirmed cases, with 67 recoveries since July 17, 2021, when the state started tracking the third wave of the virus,” the Incident Manager stated.

Noting that over 95 percent of the newly confirmed cases are those who were never vaccinated, Obi charged citizens to leverage on the opportunity of the second phase vaccination exercise which was flagged by Governor Obaseki on Monday, August 23, 2021, to get inoculated against the deadly virus.

Reassuring of the government’s commitment to ending the pandemic across all communities in the state, the Incident Manager urged residents to complement the government’s efforts by complying with guidelines to contain the pandemic.
