COVID-19 3rd wave: Edo records death of two more unvaccinated persons, as infections hit 1212

Edo State has confirmed the death of two more persons who were not inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccines, raising the total number of mortalities recorded in the third wave of the pandemic to 59.

Head of the State COVID-19 Case Management, Dr. Ebomwonyi Osagie, disclosed this to journalists during the daily press briefing on COVID-19  at the Government House in Benin City.

He said the state, in the last 24 hours, also collected 461 samples and recorded 97 new cases and 20 more recoveries.

He said: “In the last 24 hours, we collected a total of 461 samples across laboratories in Edo state, confirmed 97 new cases, with 20 recoveries from our various centres.

“Total confirmed cases now stand at 1212, with 610 active cases in Edo State. Total discharged patients now stand at 121, with 59 moralities in the third wave. We lost two patients; both males were 61-year-old and 73-year-old and they were unvaccinated.”

On his part, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osamwonyi Irowa noted: “I encourage our people to embrace the vaccines and utilize its availability positively by ensuring that we get it administered to them for their safety.

“We also call on all citizens of Edo State to disregard the negative statement about the vaccines on social media as the vaccines are safe and nobody who has taken the vaccine has died as a result of taking the vaccine.”
