COVID-19: Edo govt charges senior citizens, others on vaccination, adherence to guidelines

The Edo State Government has charged senior citizens and all other eligible residents for the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination not to be hesitant but to present themselves and be vaccinated against the deadly virus.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, while speaking to journalists in Benin City, at the weekend charged the state’s elderly population, frontline workers and other eligible members of the public to take advantage of the exercise to get themselves and their loved ones protected against the infectious disease.

He further urged residents to support the government in reducing community transmission of COVID-19 by ensuring compliance with the state’s preventive protocols to check the spread of the second wave of the pandemic.

Noting the government’s efforts to contain the pandemic and ensure the safety of residents, the Incident Manager encouraged health workers and other eligible members of the public to visit the registration platform of the Federal Ministry of Health for COVID 19 Vaccination, https://nphcdaict.com.ng/publicreg/ for self-registration and make themselves available for the vaccination.

Obi while disclosing that the state was recording success in the management of the second wave of the pandemic, urged citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.

The Incident Manager noted, “While compliance to all non-pharmaceutical measures against the infectious diseases must be strictly adhered to, we urge senior citizens, health workers and other eligible members of the public to avail themselves the opportunity and get vaccinated against the deadly virus.

“We call on everyone to continue to adhere to the compulsory use of facemasks and other precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus as the government alone cannot win this battle.”

“Wash your hand regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and observe social distancing,” he added.
