The Edo State Government has urged residents to continue to adhere to all safety protocols against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), noting that with strict compliance with guidelines and support of all residents, the state will win the war against the pandemic.
Edo State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said though the state was recording remarkable success in the management of the deadly virus, there was need for everyone to support the government to beat the pandemic and ensure the protection of all citizens.
The Incident Manager urged residents to adhere to guidelines against the spread of the deadly virus; especially maintaining social distance, regular washing of hands with soap under running water and the compulsory use of facemasks in public.
He further charged senior citizens and all other eligible residents for the COVID-19 vaccination not to be hesitant, but to present themselves to be vaccinated against the deadly virus and continue to adhere to safety guidelines to avoid reinfection.
He said: “Although we have continued to witness a decline in case positivity and fatality rates amidst ongoing vaccination of eligible members of the public, we should remember that the COVID-19 pandemic is still here with us.
“As the government continues to do all within its power to effectively manage the pandemic and ensure protection of the lives and health of citizens, we urge everyone to continue to observe the necessary precautions, including regular hand washing, wearing facemasks in public and maintaining physical distancing.
“While the vaccines will give long lasting protection against the infectious disease when the complete doses are given, in the meantime, let us continue to adhere to all the general preventive measures already instituted by the government to avoid reinfection or a third wave of the virus.”
