The Edo State Government has trained town announcers and key health informants across the 18 local government areas to strengthen its awareness campaign on preventive measures to check the spread of the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
During training in Oredo LGA, Head of Edo State COVID-19 Risk Communication, Mrs. Irene Uabor, said the exercise was designed to equip town announcers and key health informants with the knowledge and effective strategy to increase awareness on safety protocols to check the spread of the dreaded disease.
She noted that upon completion of the training, the town announcers and key informants will be given Information, Communication and Education (IEC) materials for distribution to residents in rural areas to educate them on the proper use of facemask, regular hand washing, social distancing and other protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
According to her, “There is need for everyone to join hands with the Government to fight this scourge by obeying directives and adhering to the precautionary measures put in place to check the spread of the virus in the state.”
Uwabor said the training will assist the town announcers and key informants educate and encourage the rural populace to report suspected cases of the deadly virus in designated sample collection centres across the 18 LGAs in the state.
