The Edo State Government has ramped up the vaccination of more residents with the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines, noting that at least 136,082 persons across the 18 local councils of the state have been inoculated with one dose of the vaccine since the launch of the vaccination exercise in the state.
Head of Edo COVID-19 Case Management, Dr. Ebomwonyi Osagie said this on Monday during the daily COVID-19 press briefing at the Government House in Benin City.
He noted that the state also recorded 84 more cases and five more COVID-19 related deaths in the last five days, urging residents to get vaccinated in order to be fully protected against the virus.
According to him, “As of yesterday, a total of 136,082 persons have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Cumulatively, we have recorded a total of 6,486 confirmed cases, 5,871 recoveries from the disease and 270 deaths, with 615 active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.”
The COVID-19 case manager added that “In the last five days, we collected a total of 716 samples, and recorded 84 new cases, five new deaths, and 130 recoveries.”
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary, Edo Ministry of Health, Dr. Osamwonyi Irowa charged residents not to see the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination as a government venture, adding, “Those who have taken the first dose should please come out for the second dose.”
“If you are not fully vaccinated, your immunity will not be as good as expected. So, we encourage people who have taken their first dose to take the second and those who are not yet vaccinated should please avail themselves of the opportunity of the ongoing vaccination to get protection against the deadly virus,” he charged.
