COVID-19: EdoJobs lifts 500 job seekers, others with relief package

In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Edo, the state’s Agency for Skills Development and Job Creation (EdoJobs) has embarked on distribution of relief materials to over 500 job seekers, to complement the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led aministration’s efforts to provide succour to over 190,000 vulnerable households in the state.

Executive Director, EdoJobs, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, in a chat with journalists, said the 500 job seekers and artisans were pooled from a survey conducted by the agency, to ascertain the impact of the COVID-19-induced partial lockdown in the state, in which over 3000 respondents participated.

According to her, “As an agency, we are deeply concerned about the impact of the partial lockdown on the formal and informal sectors in Edo State and therefore embarked on the survey. So, the agency got over 3000 respondents from the survey and we decided to reach out to 500 of them for now. This will ensure we reach more persons to complement government’s effort to cushion the socio-economic effect of the pandemic.”

She noted that the beneficiaries of the agency’s intervention cut across the three senatorial districts of the state and comprise persons who have been adversely impacted by the partial lockdown in the state.

The Edo State Government, in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, rolled out a relief programme targeting the most vulnerable families in the state, to cushion the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.

The state government is distributing food items and other materials through religious leaders, traditional rulers and community partners, to these families with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and journalists monitoring the process.
