Disseminate Laudable Projects of the Govt. Appropriately, Commissioner Charges

By Aichienede Akhabue Goodluck

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu has reiterated the need for proper and effective reportage of government policies and programs, as this would help close the vacuum between policies of government and appreciation.

He stressed that the more the people know, the less the chances of reckless rumour.

Hon. Ohonbamu made this assertion during a meeting with the management staff of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Benin City.

The Commissioner while Commending the Managing Director of EBS for his efforts towards the repositioning of the State-owned media house, urged him to bring to bear his wealth of experience in the media profession so as to place EBS at an enviable height.

He further sued for more creative and storytelling contents that would effectively convey the laudable projects executed by the Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

He said ” The more the people know, the less the chances of reckless rumour. Rumour you know generally can be damaging and when the government is doing a lot or has achieved a lot and the people do not know, then a vacuum is created between policies and appreciation. But when they know, they will appreciate the government.”

Hon. Ohonbamu added that, within 100 days of office of the current administration, notable infrastructural projects, such as massive road rehabilitation and the first state flyover project are receiving adequate government attention.

On the mass redeployment of some EBS staff who were hitherto taken out of their beat by the previous administration, Hon. Ohonbamu revealed that the Ministry is expediting actions for their redeployment and proper placement back to their MDA. He however assured of the conduct of the staff, noting that they would adhere to the rules guiding their profession.

In his response, the Managing Director, EBS, Mr. Sulaiman Aledeh thanked the Commissioner for his visionary leadership and encouragement given him and his team, pledging their unalloyed loyalty and commitment to the effective dissemination of government policies and projects.

In attendance at the meeting were, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Desmond Agbama, Directors of the Ministry and the Management Staff of EBS.
