… I am your brother, traditional ruler tells governor
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the traditional ruler of Opoji Kingdom in Esan Central Local Government Area, His Royal Highness (HRH) Zaiki Ehidiamen Aidonojie I, have urged voters in Edo State, especially the youth, to embrace peace and camaraderie ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election.
The governor, who led his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu and other members of the Edo PDP Campaign Council on a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler, reassured that his administration will continue to ensure that there is peace and order in the state.
Obaseki however urged the monarch to help the state government to promote peace in the area, promising to bring more development to the community in his second term.
The traditional ruler described the governor as his brother, and promised to work with the state government to ensure a free, fair and violence-free poll. He added: “I have not been a party to thuggery or violence and I will not be. We want peace in the kingdom.”
The governor also promised to mobilise contractors to begin the construction of the Opoji-Ugbegun Road to open the area for more economic activities.
According to him, “I want to plead with you to help us ensure peace in Opoji so that we can have a peaceful election here and across the state. We have very disturbing information about some of your subjects who have vowed to promote violence. We want peace in this election; we can’t do anything to harm our people. We know you to be a man of peace.”
“Road is a major area of focus for our administration so that we can open up the area to more socio-economic activities. Ugbegun-Ekpoma Road was not passable four years ago but we have constructed the road. Irrua-Opoji Road has been taken over and will be completed. The road and drainage to the palace will be done to give the palace a befitting entrance,” he assured.
