Edo 2024: Obaseki Solicits Support for PDP in Akoko Edo, Etsako West

says Edo must not hand over children who have learnt to read, write to someone not educated

Nosakhare Agbonigiarhuoyi

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has solicited support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, in Akoko Edo and Etsako West Local Government areas of the state, in the forth-coming gubernatorial election, slated for September 21, 2024.

In his remarks, while addressing supporters in Akoko Edo, the Governor assured them of the competence and track record of the PDP candidate.

Obaseki stated: “You are the oldest local government in Edo State. So, you deserve the best. God has blessed you. You are special. You have different tribes and mineral resources. My administration reorganized the mining of mineral resources in Akoko Edo for the benefit of the people.

“One government cannot finish the work. If it does, there won’t be need for another. We have started with EdoBEST in education. The children we started with have finished Primary 6 and are going to JSS 1. It won’t be right to handover children who have learnt how to read and write to someone who is not educated.”

Addressing a mass of supporters at the PDP campaign rally in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government, Obaseki remarked that it is only fair for all senatorial districts to be given the opportunity to govern the state, in order to promote a united front, assuring the people of Etsako West of continued infrastructural development in the LGA.

He said: “I have come to Auchi so many times for the last 8 years, I have not seen a crowd like this. Etsako does not have business with the opposition. You are educated. Unfortunately, many people in government and politics in Nigeria aren’t educated like the rest of you. But as God will have it, today is a new day for Etsako West.”

Speaking on the competence and track record of the PDP candidate, Obaseki noted: “I have known the incoming Governor for more than 40 years. We have worked together in the capital market. We have raised funds for big companies. He knows how to bring investors. I have done my bit by bringing a competent person. It is now left for you to decide.

“It is a fact that in 2008, I helped Adams Oshiomhole in his government. When he asked me to show him what to do and who to work with, I went to Lagos to invite some Edo people. The first of them is Asue Ighodalo.

“When I came in, in 2016, we started Alaghodoro Summit. Being the Chairman of the summit, every year, Asue Ighodalo will commit his time and resources to this event. There is no one, including the federal government, who wants to do something serious in law and business, that does not consult him.”

He added: “He resigned from almost 10 big companies to serve Edo. He is not looking for money or fame. He has left all to come and serve because of the love he has for his people. He knows everything we have been doing in Edo since 2008. And with the current economic situation in Nigeria, we need a competent person to manage our state.”

On his part, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, appreciated the supporters, while soliciting their votes come September 21, 2024.

“As the Governor has said, there is no reason for anyone in Akoko Edo to be poor. God blessed Akoko Edo with mineral resources and intellectuals. The Governor has worked to a point. My incoming Deputy and I will create prosperity in Akoko Edo where nobody will be poor again”, he pledged.

Addressing the people of Etsako West, he said: “You have seen the attitude of a Governor who loves his people in the person of Obaseki. You will experience a greater degree in my incoming Deputy and me. We will work to the extent that there won’t be any poor person in this local government.

“The President of Nigeria has said that this election will be free and fair; that he is the President of Nigeria, and not the All Progressive Congress. So, he is not in support of rigging. Don’t be afraid of threats of violence. Nothing will happen to you. Your votes will be protected.”
