Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Saturday August 31, 2024, led the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign team to Owan East and West Local Government areas of the state, while commissioning the 30km Sobe-Sabongida-Ora Road in Owan West.

In his remarks, the Governor stated that the newly commissioned road used to be a source of embarrassment to the state, because motorists had to go through Ondo State to access some parts of the state.

According to Obaseki, “In 2020, I promised you that I was going to complete this road and make it motorable. Today, I’m here to commission this road. I would let you know that the Government of Edo State will not abandon its people. Yes, we are blessed with a lot of federal roads but the federal government has abandoned us and abandoned its roads in Edo State.

“So, the strategy for us in Edo now, is to go back and construct our own linkage roads, linking communities in Edo State, so that we can have alternative roads outside the very many federal roads in the state.”

“This is an example of a set of strategic roads that we have lined up for construction into the future. This road is a link road to the western part of Edo State. On the Eastern side, from Ugoneki through to Ujiogba, we have also constructed another strategic road, so that people can go from Edo South to Edo Central and Edo North, without going through the federal roads”, the Governor added.

While emphasizing on the competence and reliability of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, in taking over the affairs of the state, Obaseki said: “We have a solid team that means well for Edo State. They will continue from where I will stop. This man, Ighodalo, is a good man. He is coming to serve Edo State, not to steal. He is not seeking fame. He has everything and is very comfortable.

“Vote for them. Don’t vote for those who will bring suffering. Don’t vote for those who don’t know what to do when they get into office. Please, vote for PDP.”

Addressing supporters, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, solicited the support and votes of the people come September 21 2024, while promising to sustain the legacy of the Godwin Obaseki-led administration.

“As the Governor has done this road, it is now left for me and my running mate to attract processing companies to leverage the wealth of plantain farms in the area. This area used to produce high-grade cocoa used for making the finest chocolate. We must go back to this farming. We will give you land. In security and education, we will continue from where the Governor stopped. We will do all the things that will improve our society”, Ighodalo promised.
