The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to putting in place policies and programmes to enable persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the state to realize their fullest potential.

The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., gave the assurance when he received the members and executives of the Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

The Head of Service who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Priscila Aziegbemin stated that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government will continue to embark on far-reaching reforms and programmes in every sector of the state to ensure the protection of rights and provision of economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Reassuring the government’s commitment to the sensitivity of the physically challenged, the Head of Service assured that the government will sustain programmes and infrastructure that will put an end to all forms of discrimination and non-inclusivity experienced by persons living with disabilities.

He further disclosed that the government is investing in institutions and collaborating with partners to cater for the skilling and empowerment of people with disabilities to ensure that they realize their aspirations in life.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Lucky Imafidon hailed Governor Obaseki for prioritizing the welfare of persons with disabilities, thanking him for the benefits physically-challenged persons in the state have enjoyed under his leadership, including employment into the civil service among others, which have helped in creating meaningful livelihoods for them.
