Edo state Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to technological tools, training and opportunities across the three senatorial districts in the State.
Giving this affirmation during the Edo Cyber security Summit 2025 at the John Odigie Oyegun Staff Training Academy in Benin City, Governor Monday Okpebholo who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Engr. Jonathan Ukpebor explained that, through tech hubs coding clubs and Technological and digital education programs, the present administration aims to ensure that every young person, no matter the background has a fair chance to succeed in the digital space.
Seaking on “online security”, the chief speaker, Prof. Kingsley Obahiangbon described the present era as one which relies basically on digital skills, breaking barriers of distance and inequality, adding that the power that digitalization brings, comes with disadvantages as well.
He Explained that children were being groomed in gaming chats, families had lost life savings to phishing scams, activists were being silenced by doxxing, and AI deepfakes had eroded trust in reality, adding that Online safety is not just about passwords, but about preserving human dignity in the digital age.
”In today’s digital age, online safety is crucial for protecting ourselves, our data, and our online presence”. He noted.
Prof. Obahiagbon further defined online safety as practices, precautions and measures taken to protect oneself, personal data and online presence from potential risks, threats and harm, while using the internet and digital technologies.
High Point of the event was the award of grants worth twenty-five thousand dollars to beneficiaries for the pursuance of their cyber security careers.
