Edo Empowering Women In High-Demand Tech Skills

Edo State has continued to blaze the trail in women empowerment across the country over the years as expected of a progressive state led by a proactive government.

Women occupy over 40 per cent of positions in the Governor Obaseki-led administration, which continues to provide opportunities and an enabling environment for Edo women to put their skills and proficiency into use.

One of such opportunities is the state’s recent partnership with Udacity, a global platform which aims at training the next generation of digital work professionals through the EdoworX programme, exploiting opportunities in the digital economy.

Through the partnership, over 800 women will receive training on high-demand tech skills including web development, data analytics and digital marketing.

This tech up-skilling initiative is geared towards enabling the youths especially women of Edo origin to harness the opportunities available within and beyond the shores of the state by turning them into professionals in top digital fields.

This is in line with Governor Obaseki’s agenda to equip and prepare the Edo State workforce for digital jobs through an online marketplace where they can favourably compete with their counterparts in other climes.

EdoWorX initiative offers these scholarships to train Edo State women on in-demand tech skills through the collaborative efforts of the state government and the World Bank to boost women’s careers in technology, especially for netizens who are passionate about starting a career in any of the top tech fields in the world.

Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, managing Director, EdoJobs, noted that the initiative is a life-changing one.

According to Mrs. Dare, “This exciting and potentially life changing free program provides beneficiaries with specialized hands-on tech training, career and freelancing coaching, access to online jobs after graduation, a community of experts, and globally recognized certifications. The courses are taught online and can be completed at your own pace when and where it’s convenient for you”.

Since technology rules the modern world, it is Governor Obaseki’s determination to create an avenue for women in the state to acquire requisite knowledge with which they can make real impact that would affect their socio-economic status as well as that of the society.

Edo today is blessed with a proactive and tech-driven Governor who is willing to harness the tech space for the benefits of Edo women and the girl-child.
