Edo Government Recommits to Promoting Filmmaking, Entertainment Industry

…As Actors Guild of Nigeria commends Governor Obaseki’s investment in the creative industry.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare has reaffirmed Edo State Government’s commitment to promoting and developing the creative industry in the State, in light of the various developmental strides by Governor Godwin Obaseki in the creative and entertainment industry which has gained prominence in recent times.

Mr. Nehikhare gave this assurance in Benin City while playing host to members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (Edo State Chapter), who were on a courtesy call to the Ministry. The Commissioner noted that the Obaseki-led Government places premium on the welfare and career path of the youth, which necessitated various reforms in the State’s creative industry, such as the establishment of the state-of-the-art Victor Uwaifo Creative hub, Organizing training programs for youths in the creative industry and employment opportunities.

The Commissioner further stated that, through the State Government’s support to the creative industry of the State, remarkable achievements have been recorded and one of such is the recent production of the highly rated movie ‘Enakhae’ which has in no small measure placed the State’s creative industry in the limelight.

Mr. Nehikhare, therefore, urged the Actors Guild members to always promote quality ideas and values for the creative industry that will project the State to enviable heights both nationally and internationally.

Earlier, the team lead and member of the Actors Guild, Mr. Precious Osariemen Aibangbe commended the State Government for investing massively in the creative industry of the State and also for the support towards the promotion of filmmaking and entertainment. In his words, “We wish to express our commendation to the State Government, judging from the much they have been doing for the creative industry, particularly for the movie industry, in terms of accommodations, logistics, and training facilities”.

Mr. Aibangbe also appealed for support, informing the Commissioner of his intention to contest for the position of Chairperson in the election of the Edo State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria slated for April 2023.
